If you’re a foodie traveler, here’s some delicious news — Thailand has been crowned the Best Food Country in the World 2025, according to readers of Condé Nast Traveller.
The Southeast Asian culinary paradise earned a stunning 98.33 out of 100 points, placing it above Italy and Japan, which came in second and third.

Why Thailand Is the World’s Top Food Destination

The announcement, made on October 7, 2025, celebrates Thailand’s vibrant and flavorful food culture. According to Condé Nast Traveller, there are plenty of reasons why Thailand deserves the crown.

Bangkok, the nation’s capital, is home to seven restaurants listed among the World’s 35 Best Restaurants this year. But beyond fine dining, every corner of Thailand tells a unique culinary story — from northern herbal soups to southern spicy curries.

And of course, Thailand’s legendary night markets make eating feel like an endless adventure. Every street is alive with sizzling woks, colorful plates, and the smell of lemongrass and chili in the air.

“Thailand has mastered the art of serving delicious food with effortless charm,” Condé Nast Traveller wrote. “Whether or not you’re a fan of Thai cuisine, a bowl of noodles, curry, or soup made by smiling locals will win your heart.”

The Signature Flavors of Thai Cuisine

Thai food is world-famous for its balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavors — a perfect harmony that makes every dish unforgettable. The secret lies in fresh herbs and aromatic spices like basil, lemongrass, galangal, and chili.

Some of Thailand’s most popular dishes include:

    • Pad Thai – stir-fried rice noodles with peanuts and lime.
    • Tom Yum Goong – spicy shrimp soup with lemongrass.
    • Green Curry (Gaeng Keow Wan) – creamy coconut curry with chicken or beef.
    • Mango Sticky Rice (Khao Niew Mamuang) – sweet dessert made from glutinous rice and fresh mango.

Street food is the heart of Thailand’s food culture — it’s affordable, authentic, and bursting with flavor. From Bangkok to Chiang Mai, you can eat like a local for just a few dollars and still enjoy meals that rival top restaurants.

Italy and Japan Follow Close Behind

While Thailand takes the gold, Italy remains a timeless favorite for global food lovers. From crispy cannoli in Sicily to authentic pizza in Naples and creamy risotto in Milan, each region brings something special to the table.

Italy’s culinary heritage is rich with icons: Parmesan cheese, prosciutto ham, lasagna, Bolognese sauce, and balsamic vinegar — all born from the country’s deep love for food and family tradition.

Meanwhile, Japan continues to impress with precision and balance. From sushi and ramen to kaiseki dining, Japanese cuisine blends artistry with simplicity, earning its place in the global top three.

How Condé Nast Traveller’s 2025 Food Ranking Was Decided

The Readers’ Choice Awards 2025 by Condé Nast Traveller invited over half a million readers to vote for their favorite destinations. Voters were asked to choose places that not only serve great food but also tell a story through their flavors.

Nearly all winners received scores above 94%, proving that food isn’t just about taste — it’s about experience, culture, and connection.

Travelers today don’t just want to eat; they want to experience local food as a part of the journey, and Thailand clearly delivers that better than anywhere else.

Why Thailand Truly Deserves the #1 Spot

From fine dining to night market snacks, Thailand offers something magical for every traveler. Its food culture combines tradition, creativity, and community, all wrapped in warm hospitality.

So if you’re planning your next foodie adventure, make Thailand your top destination.
Because sometimes, the most unforgettable meal isn’t in a five-star restaurant — it’s in a busy Bangkok street corner, served with a smile.
